COAST Physical Therapy Fitness offers a class in what exercises are best suited for us as we age. It is common knowledge that exercise is beneficial for overall health, and especially important for maintaining or improving quality of life as we age. There are many options and different avenues for exercise though, so which is the best? Four popular options are chair yoga, tai chi, aerobic exercise (walking, jogging, biking etc.), and anaerobic exercise (weight lifting). Physical indicators of health that can be compared between these exercise options include flexibility, strength, endurance and balance. The benefits of exercise are not limited to physical though. Other indicators of health include memory, sleep quality and mental health. In this presentation, evidence based research will be analyzed to compare the various indicators of health between these four modalities of exercise. Recommendations on exercise will be expressed at the end and all questions are welcome.
