Capitola Seniors Get Holiday Gift

Talk about grass roots seniors helping seniors! Proceeds from a Capitola Village Residents Association (CVRA) garage sale last spring were donated to the Human Care Alliance, a collaboration of nonprofit health and human service agencies. The grant culminated in the distribution this month of special winter emergency preparedness bags delivered to more than 100 homebound seniors in Capitola.

(At right, Grey Bears volunteer driver Mark Feldman hands Grey Bears member Betty Tochio a brown bag of food and a winter emergency kit at the Bay Avenue Seniors Apartments in Capitola.)

The reusable nylon bags, imprinted with a medication checklist, were filled with shelf-stable and canned food items, a File of Life, a 211 bookmark, and a Grey Bears stainless steel water bottle. The four nonprofit agencies that collaborated on the kits were Meals on Wheels, California Grey Bears, Seniors Council and Senior Network Services. The bags were assembled by Wells Fargo Bank employees. Thanks everyone!
