Video: The fog cleared and the sun broke through on a perfect Tuesday as 1,400 seniors celebrated in Harvey West Park at the Grey Bears 36th Annual Harvest Picnic.
Grey Bears chefs started early to prepare the savory barbecue chicken and vege burgers, fresh organic greens, baked beans, chips and salsa, watermelon, beverages and dessert. The cool sounds of Danceland brought people out of their chairs, filling the large dance area.
Santa Cruz Mayor Don Lane, Assemblymember Bill Monning and comedian Richard Stockton each spoke between songs. A team of 75 volunteers and staff made sure a good time was had by all. The 80-item raffle that included gift baskets from Newman’s Own Organics and Gizdich Ranch, gift certificates for dining, hair care and bodywork, overnight getaways and more concluded the festivities. Special thanks to all of the raffle donors, volunteers, staff and everyone who came to take part. Your support and presence made this one of the best Harvest Picnics ever!
